Cities account for more than 70% of CO2 emissions globally, while the impact of climate change on cities and the livelihood of their population is already present in everyday life. This puts cities in the center of climate action. Their engagement is not limited to reducing GHG emissions from municipal infrastructure and improving its resilience. By raising citizens’ awareness and providing favorable conditions in line with national climate strategies, cities must mobilize citizen support and the involvement of the private sector to become more resilient and to achieve the national climate targets.
